NATIONAL RUN@WORK DAY
FRIDAY, September 18, 2009 at 6:00 PM
National Run@Work Day is an opportunity for local businesses, events and communities to promote improving the health status of working adults.
GOT 35 MINUTES?
- Run or walk off the accumulated stress from a busy week by showing up for a fun, community event near your workplace in Carmel, Monterey or Pacific Grove
- Bring (or wear to work) your walking or running shoes and comfortable clothing suitable for 35 minutes of exercise after work
- We'll provide water, Gatorade, CLIF SHOT Bloks, "vintage" Big Sur Marathon shirts and more! There will be prize drawings for a free entry into the Run Forrest Run 5K held November 14th as part of the Big Sur Half Marathon race weekend.
- Volunteers will be on hand to walk or run with any individuals or groups that would like a guide.

CARMEL: Meet in the parking lot behind Homescapes Carmel (corner of Dolores and 7th). Walk or run to Carmel Beach and continue along Scenic Drive. Walkers will turn around at 13th Street; runners can continue along Scenic. At the end of the event, enjoy snacks at the new Vino Napoli across the street from Homescapes. A special "Runner's Pour" will be available! |
 |
MONTEREY: Gather at the start of Fisherman's Wharf #1 (free parking for locals after 4 p.m.!) and head out along the Recreational Trail towards Pacific Grove. Walkers can turn around at the Monterey Bay Aquarium; runners will continue until Lover's Point in PG. Discounts will be available for Fisherman's Wharf restaurants for event participants! |
 |
PACIFIC GROVE: Close up shop and head to the new state-of-the-art track at Pacific Grove High School (on Sunset near Congress). Both walking and running lanes will be available. After your workout, consider a light supper at one of PG's fine restaurants. |
 |
CASTROVILLE: Meet at NOON (not 6:00 PM) at the Community Center for a fun lunchtime walk or run around downtown Castroville. Roads, trails, and an indoor gym are all part of the course. All participants will be entered in a "poker draw" for prizes and more! |

The goal of the RRCA National Run@Work Day is to raise national awareness about the importance of daily physical activity. Incorporating thirty-five minutes of exercise can markedly improve one’s overall physical health and can help alleviate health related medical costs associated with overweight and obesity. |
