THE 2009 HEALTH & FITNESS EXPO |
The 2009 Health & Fitness Expo is located in the Monterey Conference Center at 1 Portola Plaza, adjacent to the Portola Plaza Hotel & Spa and across the street from the Monterey Marriott. Dates and hours are Friday, April 24th from noon to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

| At the Expo, participants in the Marathon, Relay, 21-, 10.6- and 9-Milers, 5K and 3K will pick up their race bibs, goody bags and event shirts. Be sure to bring photo ID (required for bib pick-up). We will have alphabetical listings of entrants and thier bib numbers, but you can look this up in advance on the confirmation page of the website. |

| There will be over 80 vendors, businesses and other race representatives at the Expo offering a variety of fitness apparel and equipment as well as providing health and fitness related demonstrations. Click HERE to see the complete list of 2009 vendors. |

A series of FREE race clinics will take place on Saturday, April 25th in the Steinbeck Forum of the Monterey Conference Center. Come and listen to Jeff Galloway speak about running and walking the Big Sur course. Charlie Engle of "Running the Sahara" fame will also be speaking along with Runner's World's "Chief Running Officer" Bart Yasso. A panel of experts will also be available to answer your questions about Big Sur.
Finally, Pasta Party tickets will be on sale for $20. There are two sittings on Saturday, April 25th; one at 4:30 p.m. and one at 5:30 p.m. The Pasta Party is held in the Grand Ballroom of the Monterey Marriott. |

Running the Sahara
An incredible documentary film showcasing three runners as they make an epic journey across the Sahara Desert will debut in Monterey on Friday night of the Big Sur Marathon weekend. Produced and narrated by Academy Award™-winner Matt Damon and directed by Academy Award™-winner James Moll, this character-driven film delves deep into the culture of the Sahara through the eyes of three individuals undergoing a life-altering experience of an unprecedented crossing of six countries: Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Libya and Egypt.
The Friday evening showcase will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Steinbeck Forum in the Monterey Conference Center, where the Big Sur Marathon Health & Fitness Expo takes place. Charlie Engle, a former Monterey County resident and one of the three ultra athletes who made the trek, will also speak about his experiences.
Tickets are $20 or $35 for a special reception and gift. Proceeds from the event benefit H2O Africa, a non profit organization that supports the execution of clean water programs in Africa. To order tickets in advance, click HERE. |
