Sunday Bus Departure Times & Locations
If you are participating in the Marathon (includes Boston 2 Big Sur & Runner's World Challenge), the 21-Miler, or the 10.6-Miler, you will need to get a free bus ticket at the Health & Fitness Expo when you pick up your race packet. Buses depart from various locations on the Monterey Peninsula. You will be assigned a departure location based on where you are staying race weekend and the number of buses at each location. Please see below for departure times, locations, and links to maps. These maps will also be in your Race Weekend Instructions (emailed to participants and available mid-April) and available at the Expo.
If you are staying in Big Sur, there will be a shuttle making a continuous loop between River Inn to the north and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park just north of the Marathon start line. The shuttle will run from 4:45 AM to 6:00 AM. Runners wishing to take this shuttle should stand on the side of Highway 1 where they will be visible to the drivers. If you are staying in Big Sur and doing an event other than the marathon, you must still take the shuttle to the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. There, you will disembark and get on a different northbound bus to be transported to the start of your event (21-Miler, 10.6-Miler, Relay legs 2 - 5, 12K or 5K). Plan on arriving at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park no later than 6 AM.
The 12K and 5K are out-and-back courses from the finish area in Carmel. Entrants in the 12K and 5K are responsible for their own transportation to the start of their event at the Marathon finish (Highway One and Rio Road) unless staying in Big Sur (see paragraph above). Parking is available at the Crossroads Carmel shopping center and at the Barnyard Shopping Village one block north of Rio Road.A map of the 12K and 5K start and finish area will be available soon.
Buses to return runners to their morning departure locations will leave from the finish village from 10 AM to 2 PM. Buses returning runners to Big Sur will depart at 11 AM, 1 PM and 2PM (actual times determined by Highway One traffic conditions). For a map of the bus departure location from the finish, click HERE.
