REGISTRATION FOR THE BIG SUR INTERNATIONAL MARATHON OPENS SEPTEMBER 1

 

 

(August 30, 2003 - Carmel, CA) -- The Big Sur International Marathon will open registration for all events on September 1, 2003.   The nineteenth presentation of the marathon  will take place Sunday, April 25, 2004.   Events include the Marathon, the Power Walk, the Marathon Relay, the 10.6-Mile Walk, the 9-Mile Walk and the open 5K run.  Registration will be available online at www.bsim.org or you may call the Big Sur office at 831-625-6226 to request an entry form.  In 2003 the Power Walk sold out in nine days and the Marathon in six weeks.

 

For 2004, the Big Sur Marathon is proud to announce that the ChampionChip® will be used as the timing mechanism for the Marathon and the Power Walk.  The Marathon, in partnership with Asics, will also be providing a technical event shirt to participants in the Marathon and Power Walk.  A sizing chart is available online at www.bsim.org.  The cost for events is $98.00 for the Marathon, $90.00 for the Power Walk, $275.00 for the Relay, $55.00 for either of the Walks, and $25.00 for the 5K.  The Marathon expects to sell out fast in 2004, with an expected 11,000 participants in all events.

 

Prior to the events on April 25, 2004, the Big Sur Marathon is presenting the inaugural Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay and the Run Forrest Run 5K sponsored by the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.  Both races will be held November 16, 2003.  The Half Marathon is accepting 3,500 entrants and currently 3000 participants  have registered.  The 5K is accepting 1,000 entrants, with 75 currently registered.  For more information visit the website at www.bigsurhalfmarathon.org.
