Special Recognition for the "Just Run" from the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports
(Sunday, August 27, 2007 - Carmel, CA) -- The Big Sur International Marathon was selected to receive special recognition from the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports "for employing innovation, inspiration, and initiative to positively impact physical activity, fitness levels, and the well-being of California children and youth." The Marathon's JUST RUN youth fitness program was one of three finalists in the "Event" category honored during the pre game reception and on-field ceremony prior to the Major League Lacrosse Championship in Carson, CA on Sunday, August 27th. 4,300 children in 40 schools and youth organizations logged over 100,000 miles in JUST RUN's first full year of implementation.
The winners in each of the Council's seven categories, who are "doing remarkable things to inspire physical activity in their communities," will be announced by Governor Schwarzenegger on September 13th in Sacramento, CA.
