(Carmel, CA - May 5, 2005) -- The Monterey Bay Wednesday Night Laundry Runners Club, a USATF affiliated club, announced the winners of their annual High School Distance Runner Scholarships for 2005.

The winners are Nathan Huerta of North Monterey High School, Amy Cranford of Salinas High School, and Aldaberto Corres of Seaside High School.  Each will receive approximately $1,500.

"We are very proud of our scholarship recipients," remarked Mike Dove, President of the Wednesday Night Laundry Runners Club.  They excel both academically as well as athletically and we are happy to be able to help them as they begin their college career."

Students nominated for the scholarship prizes had to be recognized school leaders and role models for other students in addition to high academic and athletic performance.

The scholarship money is provided by donations from running club members as well as a large donation from the Big Sur International Marathon.  The criteria are that the nominees be Monterey County High School Seniors who compete in both Cross Country and distance track (1 mile/2 mile). And will continue their running competition career in college.
