LIMITED OPENINGS STILL AVAILABLE FOR SIGN-UPS FOR THE BIG SUR INTERNATIONAL MARATHON'S KION 5K RACE

March 10, 2004, Carmel, CA - Although most events are already sold out for the 19th Annual Big Sur International Marathon on Sunday, April 25, 2004, limited openings are still available for the KION News 46 5K Run, presented by the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Families are encouraged to participate with their children, age 5 and above.

The 5k is composed of the open division chip time in the Pacific Association Track and Field Championship.  It will be followed by a fun run of children and parents competing in the Monterey County Schools Division.   Every child will receive an original designed T-shirt, as well as a commemorative medal when they cross the finish line.

The News 46 5K Run event, which supports the goal of the Big Sur International Marathon of family health and fitness, provides thousands of dollars to participating Monterey County schools. In 2003, over 2000 adults and children participated in the KION 5K Race. All proceeds from the 19th annual presentation of the Big Sur International Marathon will be distributed to non-profit organizations throughout Monterey County. Over the past 18 years, more than $1 million has been distributed to local charities.

According to Wally Kastner, Race Director of the Big Sur International Marathon, "We encourage families to sign up for this fun and healthy event where every kid is a winner!"
