Big Sur International Marathon Wins National Award

(February 9, 2005 - Carmel, California)   The Big Sur International Marathon shared the stage with America's best distance runners and triathletes at the 2004 Competitor Endurance Sports Award Banquet in San Diego, CA on February 5, 2005, held in conjunction with  Running USA's Annual Conference.

The Marathon was awarded Event/Race Director of the Year.  Race director Wally Kastner accepted the award and praised the professionalism of the working Board of Directors and over 2,000 Monterey County volunteers who, over the past twenty years, have made the Big Sur International Marathon into one of the major brands in the running industry.

The Big Sur International Marathon has twice been named the "Best Destination Marathon in North America" by the Ultimate Guide to Marathons and ranked in the top five marathons in the world by the recent German edition of the International Guide to Marathons.  The 2005 presentation of the Marathon and related events (with the exception of the KION News 46 5K) has sold out with runners coming from all 50 states and 20 countries.  The 20th presentation will be held on April 24, 2005.
