Big Sur Half Marathon Adds New Walking Event

(August 26, 2005 – Carmel, CA) --  The Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay has added a new 10-Mile Walk to the half marathon which will be held on November 6, 2005.

The April Big Sur International Marathon currently hosts three walking events on marathon weekend.  The spring walks involve over 2,500 entrants.

The 10-Mile Walk will follow the same course as the Half Marathon with the first three miles in downtown Monterey and along Cannery Row.  Upon entering Pacific Grove, walkers will proceed along the ocean with a brief detour through downtown Pacific Grove.  10-Mile walkers will turn around in the Point Pinos area and return to the finish at the Custom House Plaza in Monterey.

The 10-Mile Walk is open to 300 participants; walkers can register online at  www.BSIM.org   or call 83-625-6226 for a registration form.  The event fee is $53.

The Half Marathon sold out in 2003 and 2004 and is presently 70% full.  A start field of over 4,000 runners and walkers is expected.  For more information, visit BSIM.org.
