Big Sur International Marathon’s “Just Run” Program Awarded Running USA Prize
(Thursday, February 22, 2007 – Carmel, CA) – The Big Sur International Marathon announced that “JUST RUN” founders Mike Dove and Susan Love were awarded Running USA Youth Program National Contributors of the Year at the recent Running USA 2007 Annual Conference held in La Jolla, CA.
“We are honored with this recognition,” stated Susan Love, “JUST RUN’s” Program Administrator. As leaders in youth fitness, it is our obligation to continue in our efforts to promote the health and well-being of our youth.”
“We are grateful for this special award and it is an inspiration to continue our work on behalf of youth fitness,” commented Mike Dove, developer of the program.
Over 4000 children in Monterey County participate in the program, geared towards second through eighth graders, which promotes running, fitness, and healthy lifestyle choices. The Big Sur 5K Schools’ Competition, presented by Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, is held the same day as the Big Sur International Marathon; it serves as a goal race and event in which the students participate.
